Environment Requiremente-RG Nepal is familiar with the legal requirements and procedure for environmental studies and its approval as per Environmental Protection Act 1997 and Environmental Protection Regulation 1997 of Nepal as well as with the policies and guidelines of international donors regarding environmental and social aspects of development projects.
The Government of Nepal has amended the Schedule 1 and 2 of Environment Protection Rules, 1997 which was gazetted on 8/20/2007. As per amendments, the criteria for carrying out the Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for hydroelectric projects including transmission lines are as follows:Initial Environmental Examination (related with Schedule 1 of Rule 3 of EPR, 1997), for:- implementation of hydroelectric projects of 1 to 10 MW capacity
- construction of 33 kV transmission line project of more than 20 km in length
- construction of 66 kV transmission line project of more than 5 km in length
- construction of 132 kV transmission line project of up to 3 km length
- construction of new substation by taping power from more than 220 kV transmission line project.
Environmental Impact Assessment (related with Schedule 2 of Rule 3 of EPR, 1997) for:- construction of hydropower projects of more than 10 MW capacity
- construction of 132 kV transmission line of more than 3 km in length
