Sunkoshi Hydropower Station
Sunkoshi Hydropower Station is located at 81 km. east from Katmandu the upper reach of Sunkoshi river in Sindhupalchowk district, is a peaking run of the river type with an installed capacity of 10.05 MW (3 x 3.35 MW) and consist of three main parts, the headworks area, the canal and the powerhouse area. The powerhouse is running at full load of 10.05 since placed in operation in January 1972.

This power station is presently at the centre stage specially in the evacuation of power from Sunkoshi Small Hydropower station (2.6 MW), Chaku Khola small Hydropower Station (1.6 MW) and other potential hydropower projects in its vicinity. The interconnection of these hydropower projects with the INPS is through 6.3/66 kv, 6.3 x2 MVA power transformers located at its 66 kv switchyard. Considering the evacuation of power at Sunkoshi corridor, which otherwise may severely overload the existing power transformers, NEA, Grid Operation Department has proposed the construction of 66 kv bay, an extension of the existing 66kv switchyard.

The designed generation of this power station is 70 GWh. The hydropower station has generated 49.880 GWh in fiscal year 061/62. There had been a record generation of 66188.160 MWh in the fiscal year 2056/57. The power station has generated1621.363GWh of energy since put in to operation in January 1972. The reliability of the power station for fiscal year 061/62 is calculated to be 98.22. The station has a slight decrease in generation compared to last year due to the plant shutdown for three weeks in June/July. The generation from this power station has contributed 2.06% of total energy of INPS.
